ものの — Although / But

〜ものの — “Although / Even though / But”

The speaker acknowledges the first clause as true, but then presents a contrasting or unexpected reality in the second clause.

Structure: Verb / Adj (plain) + ものの + contrasting result

💡 Similar to 〜けれども but more formal and written. The contrast is often a disappointment or problem.

日本語にほんごの勉強べんきょうを始はじめたものの、なかなか上達じょうたつしない。 Although I started studying Japanese, I’m not making much progress. 　（繁中：雖然開始學日語，但進步不大。）
合格ごうかくはしたものの、自信じしんがない。 Although I passed, I don’t feel confident. 　（繁中：雖然通過了，但缺乏自信。）
大学だいがくを卒業そつぎょうしたものの、就職しゅうしょくできていない。 Although I graduated from university, I haven’t been able to find a job. 　（繁中：雖然大學畢業了，但還沒找到工作。）

新あたらしいパソコンを買かったものの、使つかい方かたがわからない。説明書せつめいしょを読よんだものの、難むずかしすぎて理解りかいできなかった。
